Jogging and running that joyful pain that gives you a sense of invincibility. Haven’t done it in a while? We can get you back on track. Let us show you how to restart smart and once again master your body.

On any given day you will see many folks jogging and running down the street, in a park, around a track, some sweating, others chatting, arms pumping and you think to yourself why? Then you take a second look.  Some of those jogging and running look great and others well the nicest thing you can say (at least their out there trying).

How about you? Are you an ex- runner (no such thing by the way) who for one reason or another has given up the madness? Remember those days when you were out there, when your body cut through the air like a well oiled machine? Sure you do and if you never experienced those moments when your endorphins were pulsating through your body, well, you have missed out on life indeed.

When you think about jogging and running include walking as a part of your routine. You ex-runners (once a runner always one at heart) the worst thing you can do is to get into your gear and take off down the street remembering how great you were. A word of caution, if you have had a heart attack or other physical problems it is best to check with your Doctor before setting off dreaming about finishing a marathon.

Restart Smart jogging and running tip # 1: Walk before you run. Stretch before you walk. It is important that you are warmed up before you run. Stretching the muscles actually coats them in blood helping to prevent pulls and tears. Walking is a good way to help awaken your cardiovascular system (especially if you haven’t been active.) Walking is less stressful to your joints as well so it pays to walk until you are confident that your body can endure the jogging and running.

Restart Smart jogging and running tip # 2: Comfort and Safety is a must. The most important piece of equipment you need when you’re jogging and running is shoes. Trust us wearing boots while running may be acceptable while you’re in the Military but around town and at our age not something we would suggest. There are all types of shoes to choose from, if you’re a newbie or a veteran, a casual jogger or a major marathoner. Get some advice before you buy.
Jogging and running safety what is that? Whenever possible have company on your run. We can tell you from (many miles and years of experience) that it is more enjoyable, easier and safer when you’re jogging and running to have someone to share the experience with. You will be easier to notice if you’re on the street. It’s always nice to have someone who can get help if you have a medical emergency or you break down in the hills.

Restart Smart jogging and running tip # 3
: Fashion sense. Trust us on this one if you’re going to be out in public you got to look good. We’re not saying that folks who are out there jogging and running really care how you dress but who knows you might meet someone special.

Jog with us for a moment. It’s a nice day we’re going through the park, we begin to meet and pass other runners. Hey not bad you say as we notice folks jogging and running ahead of us. Yeah one of those runners has really caught your eye and your thinking you wouldn’t mind taking a few laps with them. STOP! Do you see what you’re wearing? Did you even look in the mirror before you left the house? We hate to say this but we have seen some folks out here that, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING! Just because you’re on a run doesn’t excuse you from good taste. Folks if you are wearing extra tight, short, sloppy, ragged, mismatched and grungy clothing it is not acceptable no matter how old you are.

Restart Smart jogging and running tip #4: Your body is the machine that moves you so make sure you put the correct fuel in. There are many articles on what foods make the best fuel so we suggest that you do some research keeping in mind any health considerations you might have.
